On Friday 21 September, the International Day of Peace, students from Amsterdam and
Monnickendam, together with Global DreamWeb, entered the Peace Challenge to celebrate
peace together. In Amsterdam, the students were addressed by Marjolein Moorman, Alderman for Education, Poverty and Integration of City Councel Amsterdam and Mpho Tutu from Furth, writer and minister, daughter of the South African pastor Desmond Tutu.
At the Vox-klassen in Amsterdam, first year students from Huygens College in Amsterdam, the Vox-klassen and Bernard Nieuwentijt College from Monnickendam came together for the Peace Challenge. The students carried out assignments with the aim of bridging and connecting differences between them, to discover together that there are more similarities than differences.
At the end of the day, Marjolein Moorman presented the Social Peace Awards to the winning teams. Including the Creative Award, for which young people, under the guidance of artist Mariken de Goede, made Peace birds.
